Click on “Create your Target Account” on the page. Then, just provide your name, an email address, and a password to complete your account.

If there’s a gray strip covering the card and access numbers, gently scratch it off with a coin.

Write the balance down on the back of your card so you don’t forget how much is left on it. If you get an error or a message that reads “Scopes don’t match,” check that you typed the numbers correctly. If you still get an error, try checking your balance over the phone or in person.

Click “Save a new gift card” if you want to add one to your account to order online.

If you have other issues with your gift card, like if it’s lost or stolen, wait and listen for the other options.

Scratch off the gray strip on the back of your gift card to reveal the card number.

Once you hear the balance, write it down on your gift card so you don’t forget how much is left on it. Stay on the line if you want to hear the last 5 transactions on your gift card or if you need your balance repeated.

Have the card number and access number ready since you may need to enter them or tell them to the representative.

If your gift card was partially used, your replacement will have whatever balance was left over.
