How Do I Change My Nickname on Google Home?

First, download the Google Home app for Android or iOS. Then, follow the steps below to change your Google Home name.

Download the Google Home app from the App Store or Google Play Store. Open the app and select which device’s name you’d like to change. If you don’t see any of your Google Home devices, make sure that you are signed in to the Google Account linked to your speaker or display by tapping your account photo in the top-right of the screen. Tap the Settings icon in the top-right (represented by a gear icon) of the device screen. Tap Device information. Tap Device name. Type in the new name and then tap Save.

Why Give Google Home a Nickname?

The Google Home app lets you change the name of individual Google Home devices if you have multiples in your home and need to identify them quickly. Examples of hardware you can rename are Google Home, Google Home Mini, Google Nest Mini, Google Home Max, Google Nest Audio, Google Nest Hub, and Google Nest Hub Max.

By default, your Google Home is named XXX room Home. This generic name may not be an issue if you only have one device in your home, but you may want to change it for a more personalized experience or if you have multiple units around the house.

Fortunately, changing the nickname of your Google Home is quite straightforward. You only need to download the Google Home app and be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the device you want to edit.
