If you’re not going to use your Switch for a while, or no longer need the benefits that Nintendo Switch Online provides, you should cancel your subcription. Here’s how to do that on your Switch console and via your internet browser.
What Happens When You Cancel Your Nintendo Switch Online Membership?
When you cancel your Nintendo Switch Online membership, you won’t lose access to the perks immediately; this happens once you reach what would have been the renewal date.
Once expired, you can’t play your games in online multiplayer, play the included NES games, voice chat with your friends, and so on.
Your save data cloud backup will also no longer be available, and Nintendo doesn’t guarantee that it will retain these indefinitely once your subscription expires.
If you have a family membership, everyone in the family will lose access to the membership once you cancel.
Nintendo recommends that you terminate your membership at least 48 hours before it’s set to expire, to ensure the automatic renewal doesn’t kick in.

Cancel Switch Online and Save Your Money
It’s unfortunate that Nintendo are charging for online multiplayer in this day and age, especially when the offering is paltry compared to Microsoft and Sony’s service.
As such, you’re better off cancelling your Nintendo Switch Online membership and investing that money in some of the system’s great games instead.
